What is A Food Forest?

A food forest is an investment designed to produce maximum nutrition, beauty, and abundance with minimal maintenance for decades...if not hundreds of years.

A Food Forest consists of 7 typical layers:

1.) Large Overstory Trees

2.) Smaller Understory Trees

3.) Shrub Layer

4) Herbaceous Layer

5.) Root Layer

6.) Groundcover Layer

7.) Vine Layer

Some consider the mycelial layer to be an additional layer.  I consider animals especially chickens to be an additional layer.  You can observe the concept of a food forest naturally occurring on the edge of a woodline.  A food forest simply attempts to copy this condition with edible, perennial plantings.

OUR VISION

Food forests growing in every community and in every yard around the world.

About Me

Joe is a native of Western Pennsylvania and I have always enjoyed vegetable gardening and planting trees.  I have completed a 54 hour permaculture design course online and look forward to continuing that education.

I have an extensive background in commercial building construction both as a carpenter, supervisor, and cost estimator.

Additionally, I am a guitarist/vocalist and have played in many bands over the years including a premier event band throughout the Mid Atlantic region.

I enjoy spending time with my family or wandering the woods with my dog while designing and building a food forest on our property.

I am excited to help turn lawns into food forests everywhere!
